WAUSAU INTER-CHURCH DARTBALL ASSOCIATION RULES
(Revised 1982, 1983, 1988, 1999, 2008 and 2011)
1. Nine innings will constitute a regular game. The official dartboard will be made of wood with wires in good repair.
2. At least 6 players will constitute a team. Captains may play all whom are present. However, 6 players shall constitute a minimum number, if no more are present. When only 5 players are present, an automatic out shall be recorded in the lineup as the “6th” player or until the 6th player arrives.
3. 3. Games will start at 7:30 PM (Some teams are playing at 7:00 PM). If a minimum of 5 players are not present by 7:45 PM (7:15 PM with the 7:00 PM teams), one game is forfeited. At 8:00 PM (or 7:30 pm for 7:00 Teams), the team failing to have 5 players shall forfeit the remaining 2 games.
4. A player may re-enter a game if his retirement was an emergency.
5. All darts are to be underhanded.
6. Darts provided by the league shall be used for all games .
7. Runners shall advance one base on a single, 2 bases on a double or a 2 base single, 3 bases on a triple and 4 bases on a home run. The 2 base single advances the base runner 2 bases but the batter only goes to first base.
8. One a double play, the batter is out and the base runner nearest home. In the case there is no base runner, then only one out is recorded.
9. On a sacrifice hit, the base runner(s) advance one base, including the base runner at 3rd base. The batter is out.
10. The batter is out if the batter’s dart fails to hit the board or hits any other object before striking the board. If the body of the dart hits the board and glances off, the batter is out.
11. If the dart falls to the floor immediately after striking the board or sticks to the body of another dart (Robin Hood shot), it shall be ruled a dead dart, giving the batter another chance.
12. If the dart already in the board falls or is displaced by another dart, the original dart shall be replaced on the board.
13. The batter is out if the batter oversteps the pitching line in the act of throwing a dart. A line umpire from each team shall be appointed by the captain before the game starts. They alone shall be authorized to declare a player out for this offense. The rule shall be enforced.
14. One umpire from each team shall be appointed by the respective team captains before the play begins. The umpire shall make all of the decisions. In case of questions , the captains of each team shall have the responsibility of the final decision. No player of either team other than the official umpire shall be privileged to examine the darts of the play under question. Violation of this rule gives a favorable decision to the opposing team.
15. The base of the board shall be 24 inches above the floor or center of the 2 base single, 4 feet above the floor. The tilt of the board shall be 8 inches from the perpendicular with the base of the board, nearest the pitching line. The pitching line shall be 19 feet, 8 inches from the base of the board to the pitching line.
16. A base on balls and a sacrifice hit, shall be considered a “no time at bat”, on computing the batting averages.
17. Reports showing results of the game not received by the recording secretary on or before Wednesday noon, shall not be considered in the weekly published report.
18. All captains must file a list of names of their players with the league secretary after 3 weeks of play and any new players after the first night of play.
19. After 3 weeks from start of play, no player that has played with one team can transfer to another team in the league, unless the team has disbanded.
20. All season entry fees are due within 3 weeks after the seasn starts.
21. In case of any player batting out of turn, the regular baseball rule will govern.
22. Postponed games must be played within 3 weeks or forfeited by the team asking for the postponement. The recording secretary is to be notified.
23. All protested games must be reported to the president or secretary within 48 hours. The officers of the league shall act as the protest committee and their decision is final.
24. All games including tournament and playoff games, shall use the league rules. The exception is the tournament games and playoff games which will be 7 innings in length and played to a maximum of 9 innings in case of a tie. If it is still a tie, the number of hits shall decide the tournament and/or playoff game.
25. As a courtesy to the home team, a limit of 4 darts per batter in hand at one time.
26. Players sitting on the sidelines must not distract the batter in any way, by movement of arms, stamping of feet, rattling of chairs, loud voices , or any other distraction. The umpires must also conform. The captains are responsible.
27. The teams shall be divided into 3 divisions and play will continue through the season. Divisions “A”, “B”, “C”, will be determined by the previous year’s won-loss record. The teams with the best records will be in “A” and Division C “have the weakest record . Each division winner receives a trophy at the end of the season.
28. The annual league playoff tournament will follow the banquet as near as possible.” In the playoff, the best winning Division record gets the #1 seed; the 2nd best winning division winner gets the #2 seed and the 3rd best winning Division record gets the #3 seed.. The 2nd place team with the best record) will be the #4 seed. The #5 seed will be the 2nd place team with the 2nd best record and the #6 seed will be the 2nd place team with the 3rd best record. The #1 and #2 seeds get byes in the first round. The #3 seed plays the #6 seed and the #4 seed plays the #5 seed. In the second round, the #1 seed plays the lowest seed left and the #2 seed plays the highest seed left. Third Round: the final 2 winners from the 2nd round play for the championship.
29. To be eligible to win the annual high batter trophy, a player must have a minimum of 200 at bats during the year.
30. To speed up play, the on deck batter should be ready to shoot when the previous batter finishes.
31. After 7 innings, the 10 run rule may be applied at the option of the captains.
32. Head to head competition results during the season will determine the 1st and 2nd place finishes of each division at the season’s end, if there is a won-loss tie.
